Kdrama "Pinocchio"
Gi Ha Myeong (Lee Jong Suk) is a small kid, living happily with his family (parents and elder brother). Both the brothers are intelligent and their parents are proud of them. One day, their father Gi Ho Sang, a firefighter by profession, is called on duty and goes to a building where he's told that there are men stuck inside. The building is full of explosives and the men who were supposed to be stuck inside, escaped a long time ago and they were the ones responsible for igniting the fire. After some time, the dangerous fire takes the lives of Gi Ho Sang and several other firefighters, and the blame goes to Gi Ho Sang, when the escaped men tell the story that they already told, there was no one inside the building while Gi Ho Sang ignored and led the other firefighters inside. This causes an outrage in the country and the reporters, especially Song Cha Ok from MSC News, deliberately puts all the blame on Gi Ho Sang's family telling that a Pinocchio saw Gi Ho Sang alive.
Here, Pinocchio is a one who cannot say lies. If one says so, he/she will automatically have hiccups.
After this outrage, Gi Ho Sang's wife commits suicide alongwith her younger son, Gi Ha Myeong (protagonist of the story). Gi Jae Myeong, the elder son is left shattered and he blames Song Cha Ok for killing his family. The case closes here.
After a few months, Gi Ha Myeong, now Choi Dal Po, lives with an old man, Choi Gong Pil, who rescued him and adopts him as his son, in the name of his dead elder son 30 years back. Now, Choi Dal Pyung, Choi Gong Pil's younger son, returns to the village with his daughter, after his divorce. The daughter is Choi In Ha (Park Shin-Hye), a Pinocchio. Both the children grow up together, as uncle and niece, going to the same school.
After several years, they are shown to be in their high school and Dal Po has a reputation of being the failure and loser (Reason : The actual Dal Po, the elder son of Gong Pil, was a failure. If the now Dal Po, shows his actual self, Gong Pil gets panic attacks). He participates in a quiz against the topper of their school and almost wins!!
The story then moves to the present day, where Dal Po has become a taxi driver in Seoul and In Ha has been applying for the post of a reporter but is constantly rejected due to her Pinocchio disease. It's said that a Pinocchio can never become a reporter. However, she works hard, and wants to meet her mother, who is actually Song Cha Ok, the famous reporter in Korea.
Now, the questions arise:
1. What will happen when In Ha comes to know that her mother's wrong reports caused the mishap years ago?
2. What will happen when she comes to know that her beloved and his family were hurt due to her mother?
3. How will Choi Dal Po (Gi Ha Myeong) react when he meets Song Cha Ok after so many years?
4. Is Song Cha Ok the real culprit behind the case?
5. What actually happened 15 years back?
6. Can In Ha finally be a reporter one day?
7. Will the society accept an uncle-niece romantic relationship?
8. What will happen when they have love rivals acting as their obstacles in their relationship?
The drama was overall, a very interesting and engaging one. It had many sub-plots within the story. Lee Jong Suk's amazing acting skills keep the audience hooked. It was a well - balanced story with both emotional and hilarious scenes.The drama was worth a watch!!
